When my mom called today to tell me that she had been diagnosed with diabetes, I was really upset and concerned.  She told me that her doctor had placed her on a diabetes diet and that she should be able to control her diabetes in this manner.  She was too tired and shocked by the diagnosis to tell me anymore and we hung up, but I had many questions that I needed answered.

I immediately thought that she would have to inject insulin along with adhering to the diet, but she said that she just had to regulate her glucose on the diabetes diet and that no shots should be necessary.  I wanted to double-check this information, because I didn’t want my mom to get any sicker.

I called my best friend to discuss the bomb that my mom had dropped and she suggested that I go to a website, www.healthline.com to find out more info on diabetes.  So, I went to www.healhline.com and discovered that it was a healthcare search engine designed for use by people with no medical training (like myself) and that it contained articles and information from over 1000 doctors.  I typed in “diet controlled diabetes” and so much information popped up.  I found medical terms and information about metabolism in diabetes mellitus and much more!

It turns out that diabetes mellitus is the medical term for my Mom’s condition and I learned that she has what is called Type 2 diabetes.  I discovered that I could broaden and narrow my searches so that I could find just what I was looking for.  There were also easy to navigate HealthMaps, which charted diabetes into different subjects.  I clicked on Type 2 diabetes and health and found out that my Mom really would not need to inject insulin, and I breathed a sigh of relief.  Thank you healthline.com.
